We had an interesting English lesson on Tuesday. A woman from Australia visited us. Her name is Judith Deborah Kiss. She moved to Hungary with her husband six years ago. In her free time, she leads an English Club at the local library, where people can practise the English language with her. She doesn’t speak Hungarian, so we must use English when we talk to her. All the students in my group were excited before the lesson.
At the beginning of the lesson, we introduced ourselves. We were surprised when we got original Australian souvenirs from her. I chose a kangaroo keyring. First, she gave us a handout full of information about Australia. Then she started to speak about the country, the history, the people, the flora and the fauna. She showed us beautiful pictures, too. She was funny and kind. We didn’t understand everything, but our teacher helped us. Luckily, she
understood everything we told her. We learned a lot of new words and expressions. Later, we watched a short video about an Australian man who also lives in Hungary. At the end of the lesson, we listened to a popular song called “The Kookaburra Song”. We got some homework, as well. Our Australian teacher promised that we would soon check it together.
The atmosphere of the lesson was fantastic and it ended a lot sooner than a usual lesson. We learned plenty of new facts which we can’t find in our coursebook. The whole lesson was beneficial to everyone because we could talk to a real native speaker. We won’t forget about the homework either!
